Maria Levitsky is a New York based artist whose work takes a forensic approach to architectural environments through photography and installation.Her area of specialization is photographic explorations of empty industrial buildings which are about to undergo some kind of transformation. Her work has been shown in galleries in New York, Boston and San Francisco, and in several publications including the Crime issue of the Paris Review. She has been supported by residencies at the Macdowell Colony, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and by a fellowship from The Camargo Foundation. She is a professional photographic printer with over a dozen years of experience in analogue printing techniques including alternative processes which employ copper, silver, platinum and gold. Maria is a former dancer and performance artist whose resume includes a stint as the Coney Island Freakshow snake dancer/electric lady, as well as a music dj with an occasional radio show on the free-form station WFMU, 91.1fm and wfmu.org. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
